Levi, located in the Finnish region of Lapland, is a popular destination for tourists seeking a winter wonderland experience. With its picturesque snow-capped trees and cozy cabin rentals, Levi is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the great outdoors. We spent our winter vacation in Levi as part of our Finland travel with kids, and it was one of the best decisions we made. Here are some ideas for things to do in Levi with kids:
1. Hit the slopes
Levi is home to one of Finland’s largest ski resorts, making it a top destination for skiing and snowboarding. With 53 slopes and 21 ski lifts, there’s something for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. If you’re new to the sport, the resort offers lessons for beginners.
2. Go dog sledding
Experience the thrill of racing through the snowy forests on a sled pulled by a team of huskies. Many tour operators in Levi offer dog sledding trips, ranging from short rides to multi-day expeditions.
3. Try your hand at ice fishing
Frozen lakes are a common sight in Levi, and ice fishing is a popular pastime. Rent a fishing hole from a local outfitter and spend the day trying to catch your dinner.
4. Take a reindeer safari
Reindeer are an integral part of Finnish culture, and a reindeer safari is a unique way to learn more about these majestic creatures. Many tour operators offer reindeer safaris through Levi’s snowy forests.
5. Go sledging
Kids’ Land is an area next to the main ski slope in Levi which is dedicated entirely to children.
You can visit there for free and check out the play hut, go sledging or take marshmallows and sausages to roast on the firepit in the kota / picnic hut. There is even a small ski lift they can use to practice their skiing.
Kids can also take ski lessons here and there is a creche available for children aged 2 – 10 years old if you fancy some time away from the kids.
6. Try snowshoeing
Snowshoeing is a great way to explore Levi’s snowy wilderness and see parts of the landscape that you can’t access on skis. Rent snowshoes and embark on a self-guided tour or sign up for a guided snowshoeing trip.
7. Visit a husky farm
Many husky farms in Levi offer visitors the opportunity to meet the dogs and learn about their training and care. Some farms even offer the chance to take a husky for a short run.
8. Go on a snowmobile tour
Snowmobiles are a popular mode of transportation in Levi, and many tour operators offer guided snowmobile trips through the snowy forests.
9. Visit the Snow Village
Located just outside Levi, the Snow Village is a must-see attraction. This hotel and restaurant complex is made entirely out of snow and ice, and it’s a truly unique experience to dine in a room made of ice.
10. See the Northern Lights
Located in the town of Rovaniemi, just a short drive from Levi, Santa’s Village is a popular destination for families. Children can visit Santa’s workshop, meet Santa Claus himself, and take part in a number of festive activities.
