No doubt Seattle is a beautiful city with a lively downtown and surrounded by nature. A lot of things come to mind: Starbucks, Microsoft, Amazon, Sleepless in Seattle, Grey’s Anatomy, Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix. But there’s more to the Emerald City than coffee, tech, rain, and grunge. There are so many places you can visit in Seattle with your family.
What to Do in Seattle With Kids
There are quite a number of attractions in Seattle. But if you only have three days, make sure you visit these three places in Seattle with your family:
1. Explore Pike Place Market
The most interesting place to visit in Seattle is, at least for us, Pike Place Market. Among the places to visit in Seattle with your family, this should be on top of your list.
Established in 1907, it’s Seattle’s original farmers market. You can imagine it’s crowded and chaotic given that it has a farmers market, fish markets, a crafts market, butcher shops, bakeries, restaurants, and specialty food stores.
The energy level is high as there’s so much to see and a lot of things going on. Your family will enjoy listening to buskers, watching fishmongers toss salmon, pigging out, and meet the official mascot, Rachel the Piggy Bank.
While you’re there, make sure you drop by the original Starbucks store. The line is longer than your typical Starbucks. After all, this is a tourist stop. But the line moves fast.
2. Visit Seattle Center
You can spend an entire day at the sprawling Seattle Center, home to the iconic Space Needle, Chihuly Garden and Glass, Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP), Pacific Science Center, Children’s Museum, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Discovery Center.
The Space Needle is, of course, the must-see attraction. It is after the symbol of Seattle, visible even from afar as you get closer to the city. And the best way to get to and from Seattle Center is the monorail. It’s the first monorail in the U.S. It’s also the shortest ride, just two minutes from downtown. Your kids will love it!
3. Walk around downtown
Seattle boasts of beautiful historical buildings and cobblestone streets, so it’s quite a treat to walk around downtown. Explore Downtown Seattle where Pike Place Market is as well as some major shopping centers like Westlake Center and Nordstrom, another Seattle original.
