California Vacation With Kids: Our 2-Week Itinerary

Day 8: Livermore Valley

Not our finest moment, but we did waste spend an entire day at the San Francisco Premium Outlets (California’s largest outdoor outlet shopping mall) in Livermore Valley, several train and bus stops from downtown San Francisco.

Highlights

  • Shop at The North Face, Columbia, Gap Factory, Old Navy, and all 180 outlet stores. We did buy useful stuff like jackets, shades, and Ghirardelli chocolates.
  • Eat at Johnny Rocket’s for their burgers and fries.

Day 9: San Francisco

San Francisco is also known for food. And the Mission District is famous for its restaurants, particularly Mexican, and murals. Expect to spend a good part of the day in the area (because of the lines at popular food joints).

Highlights

  • Explore The Mission with its colorful street art, Latino community, and hip vibe.
  • Explore Union Square, surrounded by Macy’s, Westfield, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Barney’s, etc. #happywifehappylife
  • Eat at La Taqueria, the James Beard Award–winning taco place famous for its beef burritos and fish tacos. Prepare to line up.
  • Eat at Tartine, hands-down the best bakery with probably the best pastries we’ve ever eaten! (Expect a long line.)
  • Eat at Bi-Rite Creamery for really creamy, delicious ice cream you’ll be willing to line up for.
  • Stay at Stanford Court, a beautiful and spacious boutique hotel in the chic Nob Hill, restored from railroad tycoon Leland Stanford’s 1876 mansion.
